Every September, as we approach the anniversary of 9/11, we’re reminded of how much our hearts and nervous systems can hold. For some, this time brings memories of loss or fear. For others, it simply highlights how overwhelming the world can feel, then and now.
For me, this day is woven with very personal memories. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and I witnessed the events of 9/11 unfold in real time. Though I was safe in the comfort of my own home, the weight of what happened was deep and unforgettable. It also happened to be my best friend’s birthday, a stark reminder that even in moments of pain and tragedy, life continues, and there is still reason to honor and celebrate.
This duality, the ache of grief alongside the presence of beauty, is part of what it means to be human. There is a season for everything: a season for mourning and a season for joy, a season for remembering and a season for moving forward with hope.
Why Bodywork Matters
When we experience trauma, stress, or even the weight of collective memory, our bodies remember. Tension lives not only in our thoughts but also in our breath, our muscles, and our nervous system. Bodywork provides a safe space for release.
Massage and therapeutic touch give the nervous system a chance to rest. When we are touched with care and intention, the body receives signals of safety. Muscles soften, breathing deepens, and the “fight-or-flight” response begins to settle. Over time, this supports the body’s natural ability to heal and stay resilient.
The Nervous System’s Gift
Our nervous system is constantly scanning for cues—am I safe or am I in danger? In a world filled with constant information, stress, and reminders of the past, it’s easy for the system to become overloaded. Bodywork offers a reset: a moment for the body to remember what calm feels like.
A Gentle Invitation
Honoring the past does not mean living in overwhelm. Taking time to pause, receive care, and regulate your nervous system is a powerful way to honor both your body’s needs and your resilience.
Even in the midst of pain, there are still birthdays to celebrate, friendships to nurture, and moments of beauty to notice. There is always a season to remember, and there is also a season to seek joy.
At CrashBell our mission is to create that safe, healing space. Whether through regular sessions, our membership options, or our guided meditations, we’re here to support you in finding balance.
